Lorena Guillén is an Assistant Professor in the Graduate School of Education and Information Studies at the University of California, Los Angeles. Her research and teaching interests include partnerships between teacher education programs and the communities they serve; social justice teaching and policy; family/teacher and community/school partnerships; the preparation of ethnic studies teachers; and the recruitment and retention of teachers of color. Her current work is part of a collective developing and studying the preparation of ethnic studies teachers within a teacher education program.
Before joining the faculty at UCLA, Dr. Guillén was a high school English Language Arts teacher, department chair, Puente instructor, and lead teacher for the Arts, Entertainment, and Media Academy at John Muir High School. Dr. Guillén holds a BA in English from Stanford University, an MAT in Secondary English Language Arts from Brown University, and a Ph.D. in Teacher Education from the University of Washington, Seattle.
